The Shining starring Jack Nicholson, The Blair Witch Project, and Poltergeist are also in the top 100 Haloween movies consistnely.
What are the best classic Halloween movies for the whole family?
This largely depends on the age of the whole family, so please keep your child's age in mind with these recommendations:
Hocus Pocus featuring the Sanderson Sisters played by Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Bette Midler is another fan favorite for family movie night.
Harry Potter – while not an official Halloween movie it's great for getting into the magical spirit of the season without being too scary for little kids.
Practical Magic follows sisters played by Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as they get a crash course in magic is rated PG-13 and a fun one for older kids.
What Halloween movies did Tim Burton Make?
Tim Burton has made some spooktacular films that always dance around Halloween and are often included on HAlloween lists even if they don't directly relate. Here's a list of the best Tim Burton Halloween movies for the perfect Halloween movie marathon:

My favorite as a young girl was Nightmare Before Christmas!
What is the best Michael Myers Halloween movie?
The original 1978 Halloween film directed by John Carpenter is probably the best Halloween movie. The independent horror film is a cult classic featuring Jamie Lee Curtis, Kyle Richards, Nick Castel and Tony Moran.
What is the order of the Michael Myers movies?
List of the 13 Halloween films in chronological order:
- Halloween (1978)
- Halloween II (1981)
- Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
- Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
- Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
- Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later (1998)
- Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
- Halloween (2018)
- Halloween Kills (2021)

I haven’t seen most of these, but I’ve been getting more into ‘scary’ shows and movies lately so I’ll have to at least check these ‘classics’ off my list first!
yassss to Halloweentown! Need to watch all of those this weekend!
Legit those movies were the bestttt! I actually prefer them over Hocus Pocus!
I’m not a scary movie person, but I love all your not-so-scary choices! Clue is one of our favorite movies to put on around Halloween 🙂
Charlie Brown, Practical Magic, and Clue are my Hallowe’en faves. All about Stranger Things 2 this weekend, though.
I am a “not so scary” person and appreciate your list. I have not seen Coraline, and it is on my list. Sleepy Hollow and The Nightmare Before Christmas are two of my favorites.
Omg I love so many of these! My favorite Halloween movies are Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus!
This is a great list. I forgot about Gremlins!
I’ve never really been into Halloween but I absolutely loved the Halloweentown movies!! They were all sooo good!
Tori
Okay I need to watch all of these like now!!! I love Halloween town the best lol so old!!!
I watched goosebumps with Jack Black the other day on Netflix and it was awesome! This list is amazing though, I will most likely be referring to it just like you said, after bingeing stranger things lol.
I’ve seen so many of these! Can’t wait to watch them again and good snacks!
I LOVEEEEE The Great Pumpkin and I love Hotel Transylvania! So good! I cannot handle scary stuff though! haha.
WHat a good list!! Me and Edward Scissorhands need a date this weekend I think!
I watched ‘The Nightmare on Elm Street’ on Halloween when I was at a slumber party and it was my first scary-scary movie and I totally couldn’t sleep all night haha
This is such a great list, especially for watching with younger kids, since both the adults and kids will enjoy them! My favorites are Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Ghost Busters!
Love this list! I’m usually not a big Halloween movie person but I love that you included a lot of other stuff in here as well. 🙂
Halloweentown is my favourite – so glad it made your list. Great post!
This is an amazing list! I’m always looking for new scary movies to add to my rotation each October.
Hotel Transylvania was super cute!! So funny!! This is a great list!
I am not the biggest fan of scary movies, so I’m glad you included non-scary ones too.
Ok I would never watch Paranormal Activity and the fact that you started having things happen has just reaffirmed my stance – too crazy!!!!!
What a great list! I remember most of them and thanks for it, now I’m gonna try to watch them all over again 😀
These are so great. Hocus Pocus is a favorite! I swear, I could binge watch that for days!
Just watched edward scissorhands. These are all CLASSICS
YASS! Edward Scissorhands is my FAVORITE! I used to watch it on repeat for yearrrrssss
Omg some of the scary movies listed give me the chills just thinking about them! The Ring scarred me for life, and I had to stop watching the Paranormal Activity movies after the 3rd one…they got too freaky for me! For some reason, though, I could watch Amytiville Horror over and over again. Must be Ryan Reynolds. Hocus Pocus and The Sixth Sense are my faves! Saving this list, for sure.
YESS!! Amityville and Texas Chainsaw i can watch on a loop! I had to turn paranormal activity off 20 minutes into the first one! All this freaky stuff started happening in our house (dogs freaking out, lights in distant rooms randomly turning on and off, no thank you!)
Ahh thank you!! Adding it to our watch list!!
