Looking for a fun Room On The Broom activity for a preschool aged child? They'll love this gross motor activity using a Room On The Broom printable PDF that has them flying around the house collecting their favorite characters while reading the book!
I don't know about you, but my daughter is OBSESSED with the Halloween rhyming book Room On The Broom! She also loves to run around saying she's a witch while “flying” on her broom year round! This is a great Halloween gross motor activity to burn off some toddler or preschooler energy inside on a Fall day!
Supplies:
- Room On The Broom Character Print Outs (download here!)
- Scissors
- Tape
- Room On The Broom Book
- Child sized broom (optional – this is the one we have, but these are great festive options!)
- Wooden skewer/dowel or clothes pin (optional)
- Witches Hat (optional)
- Play dough (optional) or make your own playdough!
Step-By-Step Instructions: Room On The Broom Gross Motor Activity For Preschool Kids
Set up your characters:
Print out the Room On The Broom characters here.
Cut them out.
You can either tape them onto wooden dowels/skewers or attach them with a clothespin OR just use tape.
You'll take the characters and place them around the room or your home.
If just using tape, you'd just tape them up. If using the wooden dowel, tape at the dowel. If using a clothespin, you can use the clothespin to clip them around the room.
Set The Stage (optional):
If your preschooler is anything like mine, they love a good game of dress up!
If they want to you can give them a broom and witches hat (and whatever else) and encourage them to get dressed up.
Let them know you're going to read the book and collect your friends along the way.
Totally optional, you can use some play dough to create “seats” on the broom for your friends you'll be picking up.
Read the book + fly around!
As you read the book, fly around the room collecting all the friends!
If using the wooden dowels and playdough, you can stick them into their “seats.”
Or you can tape them onto the broom if you went with the tape option.
The clothespins are a little trickier… You can either stick them into the play dough, or tie a string to the broom they clip onto, or clip them on the witches hat or your child's clothes.
Uplevel the gross motor activity:
You can uplevel the gross motor activity by using a balancing rod like this one if you have or use a piece of tape on the floor and encourage your little witch or warlock to fly in a straight line to get to the characters.
This is certainly not necessary as running around the house while balancing a broom is a great gross motor activity in itself and a great way to burn off some toddler or preschool energy when at home on a chilly fall day!
