This Easter Toddler Activity using supplies you already have (little pine easter eggs or plastic eggs) to teach a variety of STEM based concepts and skills to your toddler or preschooler! They'll refine fine motor skills, practicing counting, colors, and learn patterns.

How to play Easter Egg Stacking:

All you'll do is have your toddler stack halved Easter egg cups! You can mix this Easter themed toddler and preschooler learning activity up a couple of ways too depending on your child's age.

Easter Egg Stacking Ideas for All Ages:

Give your toddler or preschooler the halved eggs and just encourage stacking. Once they seem to get the hang of that, you can make it more challenging by having them sort by colors, create patterns, or counting.

Easter Egg Stacking Game Ideas:

If you have multiple kids (or want to play as well) you can always do this as an Easter Egg Stacking Game too!

• Take turns stacking one at a time and whoever topples to tower first loses (a spin on Jenga)
• See who can stack their eggs tower the tallest in a fixed time period
• Sort even number of eggs in a pile for each player, see who can stack their pile the fastest

For young toddlers:

Stacking the eggs on their own may be a little challenging. Try using an egg carton flipped over as a stabilizing base. They'll get plenty of fine motor skill refinement still, but the base will be a bit more sturdy!

You can even add a colored dot onto the different egg dimples to encourage color sorting using this method!

Easter Egg Stacking Ideas for older toddlers and preschoolers:

You can make this more challenging by getting a foam block or wooden box, sticking a dowel in, and have them balance the eggs on top. This is HARD (even for adults) – so I don't recommend if it your child easily gets frustrated and moves on from an activity. But it can be a fun game to see whose topples first!

As kids get older, you can write a letter of the alphabet on each egg, and have your toddler stack in alphabetical order too!

Set up and clean up time:

Easter Egg Stacking STEM Challenge takes 1 minute to set up and 1 minute to clean up! I keep the easter egg cups in a bin throughout the year. When it's time to play, I take the lid off the bin, and then have my toddler clean up when she's done by putting the plastic eggs back into the bin. I did have to model this activity for my toddler at first, but she caught on quickly and LOVES it.

How my toddler (2 year old) enjoyed the Easter Egg Stacking STEM Challenge:

Initially she got a little frustrated. Plastic eggs are slippery after all! I had to model it for her a few times, and build a few egg towers with her before she would stack the eggs independently. Once she got the hang of it though she had a blast. This activity generally keeps her entertained for about 30 minute increments now.
