7 College Essentials You Probably Didn’t Think About

college essentials, young living, things for college, college stuff for girls

It's that time of year! Back to school! I've partnered with BabbleBoxx to bring you today's post on college essentials! Seriously, I used to have such a love/hate relationship with this time of year! I learned over the years, that it's the small essentials we forget about which bring the most comfort IMO. I hope some of these make the back to school adjustment a little easier for you ?.

Bulk Goods

Seriously, money is tight and you need it for nights out with friends! You're better of buying things in bulk and divvying it all up with your roomies. Instead of weekly trips to the store, you can get bulk items shipped straight to your door or do a monthly haul. Saves time and money?!? Yes, please! I love their household cleaning supplies and beauty products!

On-The-Go Food

Between classes, friends, and Bachelor In Paradise viewing parties, you need to eat! Make sure to you have some on-the-go food options on hand. Staying fueled throughout the day

Snacks for sharing

I think one of the biggest adjustments for me as an only child was learning to share. Obviously, money is tight and you don't want your roommates to eat all of your food. However you should have some snacks for sharing like Sour Punch Share Me!® Mini Bites!  Because sometimes you will run out and want to nibble on their treats, and vice versa. It's all part of being a good roomie!

Plus going to college is when you really start to figure out who you are as an #adult. Start stepping up your hosting skills by having some snacks on hand for when friends visit. I mean, who doesn't love bite sized sour candy?!

A watch

Get those time management skills in check! You can't be late to class! Make sure to schedule your appointments, and set a timer so you know when it's time to move on to the next task!

Something cozy

I don't know about you, but during college, I definitely felt homesick at times. I always loved having something cozy to keep me warm as I cried into my pillow at night. Since dorm life can get a little mish-mashed (I can't even tell you how many times I ended up with a roommates stuff), I would go with a personalized touch like monogramming a throw blanket.

Throat Drops

No joke, you need to stock up on throat drops! I'm an introvert who's accustomed to alone time. College felt like a complete 180. With sorority rush, living in a frat house, and #dormlife, I basically found myself in 24/7 conversations and neededddd throat drops!

Inspiring Words

College is going to throw some curve balls at you. If you're lucky, you'll get your heart broken, find new friends, get a bad grade, and learn that it's okay to fall down, because it's all about how you pick yourself back up!

Personally, I'm loving 2016's Goodreads Choice Award For Poetry: The princess saves herself in this one! It's full of inspiration, resilience, and learning how to write your own ending! Also since I know we all need a planner to survive college, I'm loving all the inspiring and upbeat quotes in The Posh: Happy Living Planner 2017-2018

What were some unexpected college essentials that got you through?

  1. Ahh I so wish I could have had things delivered straight to my door when I was in college. Your picks of things people forget were spot on too; I never think about being sick until it happens.

  2. Snacks were my number one thing, not going to lie lol I worked between classes so I could never stop to grab a bite so snacks carried me through. I remember in one of my classes my friends all brought some too and we laid them out across the table to eat during the lecture. It was great!

  3. Nothing’s better in college than a good planner and a little inspiration. Wish I knew a gal going away to college this year, it would be a great gift.

  4. I really agree with the cozy part, when I was away at college and I missed home, it was so nice to be able to wrap up in a blanket from home and smell my house and it just relaxed and comforted me just a little bit!

    xoxo, SS

  5. We did NOT get fed enough in my hall so I needed allll the snacks. I love your last little point there about falling down and making all the mistakes but learning just how strong you are that you can get through it all. YES.

  6. This is very timely! My son heads back to college this week. I’ll have to let him know about EZNeeds, I’m also going to remember that quote about falling down to share with all my kids!

  7. Yes! I HAD to have a mini-fridge with snacks. That was a lifesaver. I also took a mini-coffee pot. I woke up every morning to fresh coffee and didn’t have to make the trek to the dining hall to have crap coffee.

  8. College taught me so much about being prepared for every bit of my clumsiness lol so keeping emergency stuff on me at all times was essential! I feel like such a mom now because I always have bandaids and tissues in my purse. Seriously though, the throat drops. It is amazing how great it is to have them with you when you’re in a pinch!

  9. Elizabeth Johnson

Food on the go is key! I think a lot of people don’t realize how little time you spend in your dorm/apartment. Having snacks is handy!

  10. I definitely miss the routine of having classes, but I definitely do not miss schoolwork! Love your list of essentials – buying in bulk and sharing is such a good idea! And getting some great snacks was always one of my top priorities haha.

  11. I’m staying at home because my college is a 20 mins drive away. But if I were to stay on-campus, I would definitely stock up on snacks heh!

throat drops are tooootally something I didn’t think I would need haha this was so great haha definitely the snacks part xD

  13. Love the tip about throat drops! I feel like I could use them now with all the networking I do! Totally buying some and keeping them in my purse! 🙂

  14. Definitely medicine in general. I did bring alieve and cough syrup, but I never thought about medicine for allergies or anything like that. Getting sick does happen and I was way more prepared my second and third year, haha!

  15. I wish we had a delivery service like that when I was in college! Sharing is definitely something that my suite mates and I did (there were 8 of us!). Luckily, I got along very well with all the girls and we are all still close today! It is hard to share with people who you don’t get close to and are paired up with randomly. So, having choice with who you live with is key!! I always made sure to have a mini fridge & coffee maker–always needed xx

  16. Those are all really great things to have – especially the snacks! I find that my college schedule is really weird sometimes, not allowing me time to get a sit down meal on campus, so snacks def get me hrough the day!

  17. Snacks is the first college item I would pack 😉 I loved the individual skinny pop because I would ALWAYS need to be snacking while studying and popcorn was the perfect snack.

  18. I left school last year but I wish I had this list when I was first starting. I spent waaay too much money eating at the caf because I wasn’t prepared with on the go snacks!

  19. Popcorn and ramen were essentials in my college dorm, and made for some of the best movie nights with roomies!

  20. Kaitlyn Fickle Killebrew

These are definitely all essentials for college, but especially snacks! I also had a first aid box with all the essentials like bandaids, medicine, cough drops etc
