How To DIY A Cute [+ Cheap] Gingerbread & Present Holiday Garland

Today's DIY is an easy step by step tutorial for a simple, cut and cheap gingerbread man and Christmas present holiday garland! Seriously, I love how cute and festive this holiday garland is. You can decorate it as much or as little as you want to match the rest of your holiday decor. Feel free to enlist the kids to help with this Christmas craft too! 

This holiday garland is part of a three part DIY series on holiday garlands that you can make from the Dollar Tree or equivalent!! I'm really excited to bring you these cheap and easy DIYs to make your home and living space feel even more merry this holiday season! All of the garlands in this series can be made with just a few supplies from the Dollar Tree or supplies that are under a dollar from a craft store.

Supplies for your gingerbread and Christmas present holiday garland:

• Twine
• Scissors
• Gold Glitter paper (affiliate link)
• Felt Gingerbread men (affiliate link)
• Red ribbon (Dollar Tree)
• Red bows (Dollar Tree)
• Hot glue gun
• Hot glue sticks

Step-by-step tutorial for your gingerbread and Christmas present holiday garland:

Step 1: Measure the length of twine

Since there is no knotting in this garland, your measurement should be true to size. It won’t shorten as we make this.

Step 2: Cut your present boxes

You can cut your squares whatever size you want. I wanted them to be smaller than my gingerbread men, but not so small that they felt dwarfed. I just ended up using the length from the tip of my thumb to the lower knuckle (about 5.5 inches).

So I cut one strip off the bottom of the sheet (lengthwise) and then cut that into thirds.

Step 3: Assemble your garland

Hot glue on your gingerbread men and presents in a rotating pattern. You can use a measuring stick to keep them evenly spaced; I just used my the length of my index finger.

Step 4: Put the ribbon on your presents

I cut strips of the ribbon long enough that they could be folded over the face of the present and the ends could be hot glued onto the back

Step 5: Top your presents with bows!

You can use your ribbon to hand tie and cut some bows and glue those on. However, if you’re using Dollar Tree glitter ribbon, the glitter will get everywhere. Instead I found these pre-done bows at the Dollar Tree and used them to top my gifts.

The back of the pre-done bows are actually twist ties. So I applied a dot of hot glut to the back of the presents at the top and in the middle. I then just folded the silver twist tie part into the hot glue, and folded the bow over to the front of the present.
