This post in the Wanderlust Wednesday series will be a little shorter than the last two. By the end of my two-week excursion from the east coast to the west coast and back to the east coast, I was burnt. Plus, if I am totally honest, I am not a huge fun of NYC… actually, I generally dislike it… yep I said it! Queue the stampede of angry Yankees…
But seriously, I've never understood the obsession with NYC. In the summer it's disgusting. Everything is smoldering hot and smells of urine, then the winters are brutal, so basically you get 4 months of nice weather a year. People are mean. It's crowded… and WHERE IS EVERYONE ALWAYS RUSHING TOO?!?
I digress though… so we were in NYC to plan my wedding band so I decided to meet up with my buddy Tayo Rockson, who you may remember from this episode of the inspiring millennials vlog. Tayo and I met on Twitter back in February and I was on his podcast, where we just hit it off and I've been obsessed with him ever since.
We grabbed lunch in Chelsea at this really yummy Japanese place called Kobeyaki.
Afterwards my fiance and went for a walk on the High Line (there are 2 things I enjoy about NYC, Central Park and the High Line).
The High Line is about a mile and a half long linear park that is built on an elevated section of the West Side Line of the New York Central Railroad system that is no longer in use. It's really cool how they bring in elements of concrete, metal and greenery as you move towards and along the Hudson River.
I highly recommend spending some time here if you are ever in the city. It starts in the Meatpacking District at Gansevoort Street (3 blocks below 14th street) and runs through Chelsea to the northern part of the West Side Yard on 34th Street.
I don't have a ton of great pictures from it because like I said, I was tired, and it was super cloudy, and this may have been when I started feeling a little sick… weirdly enough my body literally rejects NY. I always get a sore throat and a cold within 24 hours of being there.
After walking The High Line, we headed all the way up to the Upper East Side to meet with Kwiat who did my engagement ring, followed by about 8 other stores as I tried on a wide array of rings. Only to feel completed frustrated as nothing was “quite right” for the overall look I am going for… let's just say I am ending up with 2 wedding bands! #Staytunedfolks!
