I am a TV and movie junkie. I have always been obsessed with the idea of moving to California, not necessarily LA, but definitely SoCal, and seeing the Hollywood sign in person was definitely on my bucket list.
I was so excited and wanted to get as close as possible, so I headed over to my friends, Mr. & Mrs. Adventure's travel blog to learn how they did it (seriously check it out, they got SO close!).
I knew I couldn't sit in the “O” but there was something magical about walking the same path as Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis in Friends with Benefits.
On a side note: when we were up above the sign, this guy was panicking because had hopped the fence and then re-hopped it (so he wouldn't get in trouble with the cops obvi), but where he re-hopped it he couldn't climb down from… so apparently people really do hop the fence.
The morning finally came where we decided to tackle the hike up to the Hollywood sign, and I was giddy like a kid on Christmas the morning. We got there so early that the gate referenced in my friends blog wasn't even open yet… which led to us to taking the wrong right turn up Mount Lee. So if you are thinking about tackling it, be aware there are at least TWO ways to get up there. One will take you along a wider more paved road (that's they way you should go) the other is more for locals walking their dogs that live in this little residential neighborhood. Both end up connecting at a certain point where you can get above the sign, but to get pics like Brit and Drew's in the blog post mentioned earlier, definitely do not go up the walking trail by the Sunset Ranch sign.
This was as close of a photo op as we got to it, unless we were above it. It was still a super fun hike but I will definitely be going back to get pics like Brit and Drew.
We went early like 7:30 am and it was a little chilly at first, but then started to warm up. The hike offers some shade along the way and breath taking views.
We didn't see any snakes on this hike, but they are definitely out there so be careful around any of the brush… For instance, in the above photo if you look just over Eric's shoulder on the left you will see a little trail with a lot of low vegetation, which is where the snakes love to be. I really wanted to go down it, but wasn't wearing anything to really protect my ankles from a snake and got nervous so I bailed on it ? #safetyfirst!
Have you ever been to the Hollywood sign or LA? What did you love about it?
I am so happy I got to cross this one off my bucket list, and it was absolutely worth it!
