The holiday season is officially here and IMO, it just screams cuddle up and start watching all the Christmas movies I can get my hands on! Personally, I’m someone who looks forward to the classic holiday movies and all the cheesy Hallmark goodness where love conquers all and Christmas mornings are perfectly snowy. Something about it all just seems so whimsical and I can't get enough… that's probably why I left my Christmas tree up until May last year too… haha! In all seriousness, I've rounded up over 50 Christmas Movies to watch this holiday season – from the cheesiest, to the funniest, to even the action packed or a little on the creepy side! There's something for everyone!
So grab a blanket and a cup of hot cocoa because I’ve got the ultimate movie countdown that will take you from December 1st to Christmas Day, and beyond! Because let's be honest, who stops watching Christmas movies on Christmas day?! Or better yet, who watches just one movie a day this time of year?!
p.s. I try to update this post each season so it keeps growing! Be sure to drop more of your favorite Christmas Movies in the comments! And this post contains affiliate links.
Countdown To Christmas: 50+ Movies To Watch This Holiday Season
Noelle – Starring Anna Kendrick as one of Santa Claus' children who must save Christmas after her brother (who was supposed to step in for Santa) goes missing on Christmas Eve! Watch it on Disney+
Casper's Haunted Christmas – Just in case you haven't gotten the Halloween out of your system yet!
The Holiday – Is it really the holiday season if you don’t watch The Holiday? Not in our house!
The Christmas Card – A Christmas movie with Nicholas Sparks vibes, yes please!
Home Alone 1 and 2 – I couldn’t choose one so I guess a Home Alone marathon is in order.
It’s a Wonderful Life – If you’re craving something old school and classic.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas – I find myself singing “Where are You Christmas?” ALL the time, so this is a must-watch.
A Very Merry Mix Up – What happens when you go to spend the holidays with your fiance’s family and end up in a stranger’s home and fall in love with someone else? A very merry mix-up.
Christmas List – Ever plan the perfect holiday just to have it all blow up in your face? If so, you’ll find this movie very relatable.
A Charlie Brown Christmas – Isn’t Charlie Brown the cutest though?
A Royal Christmas – All about a meddling mom who happens to be a queen. It’s Hallmark and it’s so good.
Four Christmases – Kinda sad but also amazing and funny. Don’t worry, love always wins in these kinds of movies, remember? Plus, Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. Enough said.
A Christmas Story – An ‘80s holiday classic that’s funny AF.
Miracle on 34th St (the original or the 1994 version) – I’m partial to the 1994 version, but either way a solid holiday movie.
A Cookie Cutter Christmas – If you’re looking to feel inspired to do some holiday baking, this is your movie.
December Bride – Another reallllly good holiday love story. I can’t get enough.
A Christmas Detour – If you’re a Candace Cameron fan, you’ll love this movie!
Elf – Does this one even need a description? Comedy meets the holidays and it’s pure gold.
Switched for Christmas – A play on the Parent Trap where estranged twins switch for the holidays.
The Santa Clause (1, 2, and 3) – This was a favorite of mine growing up. I can’t vouch for all the sequels, but the original is fantastic.
The Polar Express – It’s animated but it when Tom Hanks is involved, I don’t question it.
Christmas with the Kranks – Another Tim Allen Christmas movie that definitely brings out the holiday spirit and gives a few laughs.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation – Is any holiday season complete without the Griswold’s? (It’s not.)
Matchmaker Santa – A tangled romance starring Lacey Chabert (think Gretchen Wieners).
A Bride for Christmas – This is kind of like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days with a Christmas twist.
The Family Stone – This movie has an amazing cast and a really heart warming message that I guarantee will have you in tears.
Love Actually – Truthfully, this may be one of E's favorite movies in general!
Ernest Saves Christmas – I was obsessed with Ernest movies as a kid and this was probably my favorite! It's always good for a laugh, especially during the holidays!
12 Dates Of Christmas – On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me… repeating my Christmas Eve date over and over?! At least that date is with Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar)
A Christmas Kiss – A mysterious kiss on an elevator leads to a love story
Good Luck Charlie – It's Christmas – Nothing like a good ol' Disney original during the holidays
A Bad Moms Christmas – A little family humor during the holidays? Especially between mothers and daughters? Sign me up! Bad Moms movies are absolutely hysterical and it's Christmas, and our little baby will be joining us in the New Year! So this feels extra appropriate to re-watch over and over this season!
A Heavenly Christmas – This one's for all the workaholics this holiday season who need a little reminder about what life is all about.
Serendipity – I don't know if everyone considers this a full fledged Christmas movie, but I certainly do! It's one of my absolute faves to watch over and over.
Christmas Under Wraps – I know this is like the third or fourth movie on here with Candace Cameron, but she apparently is the key to many of your Christmas movie dreams! If your feeling bummed about your career as the year closes out, this is one for you! After she get's passed over for a job she finds herself moving to a remote town with a big holiday secret under wraps!
The Night Before – Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie try to find the holy grail of Christmas parties.
A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas – The two have grown apart and are preparing for the holidays when Kumar receives a mysterious package, and hilarity ensues.
The Muppet Christmas Carol – A heartwarming classic as told by your favorite Muppets!
Bad Santa (1 and 2) – A conman and his partner pretend to be Santa and his little helper Elf to rob department stores during the holidays.
The Nightmare Before Christmas – Pumpkin King Jack Skellington wants to spread Christmas cheer everywhere! What he creates, ends up being a little different than expected!
Santa Paws – As long as nobody in your house is begging for a dog this year this movies will definitely melt your heart as a group of pups travel to the North Pole!
Gremlins – A boy ignores the three cardinal rules about these cute little creatures which turn evil on Christmas Eve.
Jingle All The Way – Another favorite of mine growing up – Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad star in this as they try to score the hottest action figure of the season. Full of action and life lessons.
Batman Returns – Just in case you can't get everyone onboard with another cheesy Christmas movie! Batman Returns takes place during the holiday season and is complete with a tree lighting and holiday party.
Scrooged – A Christmas Carol re-mix with Bill Murray, need I say more?
A Shoe Addict's Christmas – Okay, maybe I should start a seperate list for just Candace Cameron movies at this point? In this one, she is a Christmas Hater who goes on a very Christmas Carol-esque journey with her guardian Angel.
List Of Christmas Movies On Netflix 2022
A Christmas Prince – A Netflix original that I had on repeat last year! Who doesn’t like to watch a holiday-inspired love story unfold?
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding – Because, who doesn't love a good sequel?!
A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby – Because, we really can't get enough of these two!! (coming out on 12/5!)
Christmas Inheritance – Another Netflix original, starring the 100's Clarke, so basically aside from it being a great cheesy Christmas movie, just watch to see Clarke in a new light!
Let It Snow – This is a new one in 2019 and a total must watch! Think Love Actually meets high school. It's honestly my new favorite of the season right now!
The Princess Switch – Vanessa Hudgens plays both a soon-to-be princess and bakery owner in Chicago. The two run into each other in a small town the week before Christmas and decide to switch places and it turns out it's exactly what they (and the people in their lives) need (I will say this was just okay compared to some of Netflix's other Christmas originals)
The Princess Switch: Switch Again – Sequel to The Princess Switch – this time with 3 Vanessa Hudgens. I actually liked this one more than the first – but I'm still not a Hudgens fan personally.
The Holiday Calendar – Kat Graham plays a photographer who receives a seemingly magical Advent calendar that appears to predict her future throughout the month of December. I will say this was also not my favorite Netflix original but I did enjoy it more than the Princess Switch.
The Christmas Chronicles – Another Netflix Original – that's actually really great and I highly recommend of all their 2018 Christmas movie releases – Siblings come up with a plan to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve!
Christmas Chronicles Part 2 – Unhappy over her mom’s new relationship, a now-teenage Kate runs away and lands at the North Pole, where a naughty elf is plotting to cancel Christmas.
Holiday In The Wild – All the Hallmark vibes from this one as a women gets divorced and heads to Africa where she falls in love. I mean… it has a rescue baby elephant, so just try not to let your heart strings melt!
Klaus – From the creator of Despicable Me, follows the worst student in the postal academy as he brings holiday cheer to an island.
The Knight Before Christmas – Vanessa Hudgens is back, and this time as a science teacher who falls for a medieval English knight. It has magical time travel, snow covered trees, and all that you'd expect from a Christmas Movie.
Holiday Rush – A radio DJ loses his wife and decides to cope by buying his kids a bunch of stuff… only to lose his job and have to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas!
Christmas Catch – A Christmas obsessed cop who has a hard time with love needs to go undercover to catch the bad guy – or is he? This was SUPER cute IMO.
Jingle Jangle – Decades after his trusted apprentice betrayed him, a once-joyful toymaker finds new hope when his kind and curious granddaughter comes into his life.
Operation Christmas Drop – A by-the-book political aide falls for a big-hearted Air Force pilot while looking to shut down his tropical base and its airborne Christmas tradition. I thought it was cute, but a little slow and much preferred…
Holidate – Emma Roberts stars as the family outcast – unmarried, no kids, works from home, lonely. When she meets a stranger in a store and they decide to be each others dates for the holidays to avoid the awkward pressure. This movie follows the two over the course of a year of holidays. I absolutely LOVED this rom-com. There are so many funny low key moments that are easy to miss but had my LOLing. I watched it twice the first week it came out.
A Very Country Christmas – When an unfulfilled country music star hides out in his hometown, he meets a budding interior designer who finds her way into his heart.
Christmas Great British Baking Show – Christmas Baking show – need I say more?
Holiday Home Makeover With Mr. Christmas – Over the top Christmas home makeovers, yes please!
A Princess For Christmas – At the invitation of a relative, young Jules Daly travels with her niece and nephew to a castle in Europe, where Jules falls for a dashing prince.
Elliot, The Littlest Reindeer – When Blitzen suddenly retires, a miniature horse determined to join Santa's reindeer team faces fierce competition in the North Pole tryouts.
Christmas Break-In – Stranded at school before holiday break, a precocious girl gets into the spirit of saving when a trio of robbers trespass and hold the janitor hostage.
Alien Xmas – A young elf mistakes a tiny alien for a Christmas gift, not knowing her new plaything has plans to destroy Earth's gravity — and steal all the presents.
Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square – Seasonal cheer comes to a screeching halt when a cold-hearted woman tries to sell her hometown's land. Can music, magic and memories change her mind?
Dragons: Rescue Riders Huttsgalor Holiday – Snowfall marks the start of Odinyule — the Viking holiday of giving! But crazy weather might cancel the tradition unless the Rescue Riders can swoop in.
A Go! Go! Cory Carson Christmas – When a familiar-looking stranger crashes in without a memory, Cory helps him remember the magic of Christmas to save the holiday for everyone.
Sugar Rush Christmas – It's everything you love about “Sugar Rush” — with a holly jolly holiday twist — in this Christmas-themed spin on competitive baking.
And there you have it! Over 50 Christmas movies that will make the countdown to Christmas feel extra magical!
