5 Back-To-School Books For Kids

In Florida we are already heading back to school this week! I wanted to share 5 of my favorite books for the back-to-school time.

These don’t directly focus on “going to school,” but instead focus on themes kids at this stage will deal with whether they are in traditional school or homeschooled. These books primarily focus on inclusivity, overcoming mistakes/frustration, and resilience.

For a more traditional “back to school” book I like Lovevery’s ‘Felix Goes To Preschool’ as it’s a good walkthrough of what to expect for kids. I would probably only introduce it if my kid is expressing nerves about school or is historically nervous in these types of situations. Otherwise I’d probably skip it because I wouldn’t want me kids to think they “should” be nervous about school because other kids are.

Amy Wu And The Warm Welcome

I’m a huge fan of all the Amy Wu books! This one teaches kids to help others feel welcome, even when our differences feel strange!

Charlie Learns Something New

One of our favorite books for stretching kids frustration tolerance and ways to cope when things feel hard.

I think this book is a must have for everyone, but especially for homeschooling families as you’re often face-to-face with kids during the learning process and it’s a fantastic book to reference during those challenging moments before the child’s brain “learns something new.”

School if full of unexpected disappointments and this book is a great lesson in empathy, disappointment, and resilience.
