I fell in love with both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler back in 2004, when they delivered us Mean Girls. Then fell in love with Tina Fey all over again in her book, Bossy Pants* which I strongly recommend if you haven't read it!
Sisters* is now On Demand if you have the HBO app (woot woot!) and I HIGHLY recommend you watch this movie. Seriously, I could not stop laughing. Not gunna lie… this post is a bit of a stretch. I had to seriously think about these life lessons.
8 Life Lessons from Sisters
1. Some styles have gone out of style for a reason.
While I am all about the new fall trends as an homage to the seventies, you will not catch me teasing my hair or rocking a windbreaker anytime, ever, in my life again. I am still recovering from the photos of me wearing this look when I was four years old.
2. You need a wing(wo)man.
Whether it's for romantic relationships, work, or with family, we need that person who pushes us out of our shell and sets life up by the balls for our taking.
3. Getting old doesn't mean you have to be boring.
I love love love my twenties! But now that I am thinking about starting a family and frequently think about life in terms of being my “late” twenties, I am starting to panic a little I don't want to ever feel like the life has been snuffed out of me. I want to always have fun. As we get older there are loads more responsibilities, but we need to make fun a responsibility too.
4. Clothes are an expression of ourselves.
Not just a way to avoid a public indecency charge.
5. We all need that one person who has got our back.
That one person who will help us clean up the mess that is life.
6. Nobody likes to be left out.
Are you holding on to a grudge? Can you even remember why you started to dislike someone or something? I have a tendency to freeze people out when I am holding a grudge or disagree. Lately, this realization has been coming up a lot for me. So much stuff happened during my late teens and early twenties, that I can not even remember what all the bad blood was about. With getting married in a couple of weeks, it’s kicked up a lot of feelings and I want to take a moment, to encourage you to look at who you’ve been excluding from your life and ask yourself, “Why? Does it even matter anymore?”
7. At any age, change can be difficult.
I feel ya sister. Literally my response to life these last couple of months.
8. When in doubt dance it out.
Okay I know I used that last week, but seriously, we can never be reminded too much about this lesson. #AmIRight?!?
